Chemical Properties
White powder. Soluble in hot water, ethanol; soluble with
difficulty in cold water and acetone; not dissociated
in benzene and chloroform solutions; distinctly different
from the isomeric adduct of trimethylamine
oxide and sulfur dioxide.
Uses
Reactant for sulfation reactions involving:
- Synthesis of sulfate-conjugated resveratrol metabolites
- Chitooligosaccharides used for anti-HIV-1 activity
- Dodecyl thioglycopyranoside used as a surfactant for enantiomeric separation
- Glycosaminoglycans which facilitate activation of signaling pathways dependent on sulfation pattern
- Polysaccharides as heparan sulfate mimetics
Nucleophile for the synthesis of α-tosyloxy ketones
Uses
Separation of isomers, soil sterilant, catalyst for
thermosetting resins.
