Metoprolol, as a treatment for hypertension, mainly uses its tartrate (C34H56N2O12, [56392-17-7]), and also uses its hydrochloride. Medoxin has a selective blocking effect on β1 adrenal receptor, but a weak effect on β2 receptor. In large doses, medoxin can induce contraction of vascular and bronchial smooth muscle, and has a weak effect of membrane stabilizer, without endogenous sympathetic-like activity. Slows heart rate, reduces cardiac output and oxygen consumption, and lowers blood pressure. It is mainly used to treat angina pectoris and hypertension.
