Can Ivermectin be used to treat COVID-19?

No. First, ivermectin is not approved or authorized by the FDA for the treatment of COVID-19, and ivermectin is not approved by the FDA for the treatment of any viral infection. Second, current research data do not show that ivermectin is effective against COVID-19. Clinical trials evaluating ivermectin tablets for the prevention or treatment of COVID-19 in humans are ongoing. Although ivermectin has been shown to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 replication in cell cultures. However, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies have shown that the plasma concentrations required to achieve the antiviral efficacy detected in vitro require administration of doses 100 times higher than those approved for human use, which may be dangerous to humans. In addition, the Panel recommends against the use of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19.
