Uses of Sodium sulfide

Sodium sulphide is commonly used in the pulp and paper industry for the manufacture of paper products. It is used as a bleaching agent and to remove lignin from wood pulp. In the textile industry it is used as a dyeing agent for cotton and wool fibres. In the leather industry, sodium sulphide 98% anhydrous is used to remove hair and feathers from animal skins and as a tanning agent. In addition, it is used in the production of sulphur dyes, insecticides and pharmaceuticals. Its reducing properties also allow it to be used in the synthesis of organic compounds such as sulphur esters and thione.98% Anhydrous Sodium Sulphide is also widely used in the mineral flotation process, which helps to separate valuable minerals from the ore.

Safety of Sodium sulfide

Sodium sulphide is corrosive to humans and when ingested it is corrosive to the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. Airborne particles can quickly reach harmful concentrations. It may cause skin irritation. Fine sodium sulphide may explode in air. Occupational exposure limits have not been established for sodium sulphide. However, it may pose a health hazard. The substance may be harmful to aquatic organisms and the environment.
