The performance of N. N-dimethyl ethanolamine

May 5,2022

Introduction

N. N-dimethyl ethanolamine is an organic compound with chemical formula C4H11NO. It is mainly used as resin raw material and also as raw material for medicine, dyes and paint solvents. N. N-dimethyl ethanolamine, also known as N, N-dimethyl-2-hydroxyethylamine; 2-dimethylaminoethanol. Colorless or yellowish liquid with ammonia smell. Miscible with water, ethanol, ether, acetone and benzene[1].

Toxicity of N. N-dimethyl ethanolamine

This product is low toxicity. It can stimulate the skin and central nervous system. Therefore, protective measures should still be taken according to the "Regulations on toxic chemicals". It is packed in white iron drums with a net weight of 180kg. Store in a cool and ventilated place and store and transport according to the regulations of flammable and toxic chemicals.

Application of N. N-dimethyl ethanolamine

The toxicity of N. N-dimethyl ethanolamine can be used as local anesthetic, emulsifier, textile assistant, fuel oil additive, ion exchange resin and so on. The toxicity of  N. N-dimethyl ethanolamine can be used to synthesize local anesthetics, antihistamines, antispasmodic agents and antihypertensive drugs. The toxicity of N. N-dimethyl ethanolamine is also the raw material for the preparation of emulsifiers, textile auxiliaries, corrosion inhibitors, flocculants, scale inhibitors, ion exchange resins and dyes. The toxicity of N, N- two methanolamine can also be used as an epoxy resin curing agent, polyurethane foam plastics and paint solvent.

The storage of N. N-dimethyl ethanolamine

N. N-dimethyl ethanolamine should be stored in a cool and ventilated warehouse. N. N-dimethyl ethanolamine should be stored away from kindling and heat sources. The storage temperature of N. N-dimethyl ethanolamine should not exceed 30 ℃. Keep the container for storing N, N-Dimethylethanolamine sealed. N. N-dimethyl ethanolamine shall be stored separately from oxidants, acids, metal powders, etc. and mixed storage shall not be allowed.

Leakage emergency treatment

Quickly evacuate the personnel in the leakage contaminated area to the safe area, isolate them and strictly restrict their access. Cut off the fire source. It is recommended that emergency treatment personnel wear self-contained positive pressure respirator and fire protective clothing. Do not touch the leakage directly. Cut off the source of leakage as much as possible. Prevent entry into restricted spaces such as sewers and flood drainage ditches.

Small leakage: absorb with sand, vermiculite or other inert materials. It can also be washed with a large amount of water and diluted into the wastewater system.

Massive leakage: build a dike or dig a pit to receive; Cover with foam to reduce steam damage. Transfer to tank car or special collector with explosion-proof pump, recycle or transport to waste treatment site for disposal.

Protective measures

Respiratory protection: wear self-priming filter gas mask (full face mask) when you may be in contact with its vapor. Self contained breathing apparatus shall be worn during emergency rescue or evacuation.

Eye protection: respiratory protection has been provided.

Body protection: wear adhesive tape and anti poison clothing.

Hand protection: wear rubber gloves.

Others: minimize direct contact. Smoking, eating and drinking are strictly prohibited at the work site. Shower and change clothes after work.

First aid measures

Skin contact: take off the contaminated clothes and wash the skin with a large amount of flowing water for at least 15 minutes. See a doctor.

Eye contact: lift the eyelids and rinse thoroughly with a large amount of flowing water or normal saline for at least 15 minutes. See a doctor.

Inhalation: quickly leave the site to a place with fresh air. Keep respiratory tract unobstructed. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing stops, perform artificial respiration immediately. See a doctor.

Ingestion: gargle with water and drink milk or egg white. See a doctor.

Extinguishing methods: fire extinguishing agents: fog water, anti foaming foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide and sand. Move the container from the fire site to an open place as far as possible. Spray water to keep the containers in the fire site cool until the fire extinguishing is completed.
